Fourth Grade Handwork
In fourth grade Waldorf Handwork curriculum our students spend much of the year doing cross stitch. This is beneficial to the students not only for the reward of creating something beautiful and functional, but it also helps the brain develop by “crossing the midline” of their project. Going back and forth in a specific pattern from left to right and up and down. The first major cross stitch project is making a project using a watercolor painting that they have created. The students created a painting that had to be evocative of a vessel. Something that welcomed in the item in question.
The students then chose the colors of embroidery thread to match their art and created the cross stitch version of their painting.
