The City School has always maintained an Organic Garden for Class Three to nurture throughout the year as part of the 3rd grade Curriculum inspired by Waldorf Pedagogy which teaches that Humans can survive on the earth using what the earth gives to them.
More recently, thanks to a grant from Whole Foods, we have been able to add a second garden! Now Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 have weekly gardening class where they learn about Organic and Biodynamic Gardening techniques and plants. This brings them closer to an understanding of nature in Southern California as well as in other parts of the country.
Grade Seven is also doing quite a bit of gardening this year! Part of their Organic Chemistry studies involves making compost to understand the chemistry of plants. Everyone is working together to make the garden thrive!
Even the Preschool and Kindergarden have their own garden at City School!
