Maya was born and raised in Armenia. Although Waldorf education was not available in her country at the time Maya’s family made up for that shortcoming at home, gently nurturing in her a love for all things and endeavors beautiful and useful.
Maya fell in love early on with the performing arts and, after moving to the U.S. became especially interested in music performance and pedagogy. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in flute performance from CSUN and has been a performer and music teacher for over 18 years.
Maya has received Waldorf teacher training through workshops and lectures at the Waldorf Institute of Southern California and the Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks. She has taught music at Highland Hall and the City School, where she has also been a class teacher for the past three years, taking the children from grade 2 through grade 4. She is looking forward to teaching first grade for the first time!
Maya and her husband Tigran were also committed and enthusiastic Waldorf parents for 13 years, first at Highland Hall and then at the City School. Their boys graduated from the City School in 2013 and 2016.
