Woodworking in a school inspired by Waldorf Pedagogy is not only an artistic undertaking, it is also a task to strengthen the will.
The City School students begin Woodworking in Grade 5. The children begin to understand the nature of the different types of woods from grain to hardness. They begin their first project with whittling and carving. Learning the correct usage of carving instruments while creating a simple shape is the focus of both Grade 5 and 6.
Grade 7 and 8 work with hand saws, rasps, files and drills. While learning proper tool safety, they create simple toys and figures.
